Business need:  Manage the Shutdown of a Manufacturing Plant

What we did:

  • Worked with management to develop a detailed implementation schedule that included all employee communications, staff reduction schedules and severance payouts.
  • Oversaw the employee relations team’s efforts to meet with every impacted employee 1-on-1 after general communications, and develop transition plans and provide support for each employee
  • Negotiated with other areas of the organization to hold spots open, backfill with temps etc. to place as many employees in other roles as possible.
  • Worked with potential external employers on job opportunities

The Result:

  • Kept employee morale very high right up until the last person turned off the lights and left the plant  
  • Plant operated efficiently to build inventory up until shutdown
  • Met schedules and budget for plant closure

Issue:  Low employee engagement survey scores and low morale for a business


What we did:

  • Analyzed employee engagement survey results, and recommended a plan for improvement
  • Worked with the management team to enhance skills and enable behavior changes

The Result:

  • Management team responded well to coaching and implemented suggested changes
  • The survey results 6 months later showed greater than 50% improvement on all areas targeted for improvement
